How do curtain tracks work?

Style your curtains beautifully with ceiling and wall-mounted curtain tracks.

Many people go shopping for curtains without much thought of how their curtains will need to be hung.

It’s important to know that the type of curtains you choose influences whether you’ll need curtain tracks to suspend them. Depending on the style of the curtain and the choice of fabric, curtain tracks may provide you with much needed function and design versatility.

Highly decorative, practical, and capable of suspending heavy drapes or pleated curtains, tracks allow for greater flexibility and ease when it comes to upgrading your window.

Here, we will explain what curtain tracks are and why you might need them.

iSeekBlinds provides custom-made curtain tracks with all our custom-made curtains to make DIY curtain installation easy

What are curtain tracks?

Curtain tracks permit drapes to be drawn using a tracking mechanism. Unlike curtain rods – which is simply a pole fed through curtain rings – curtain tracks use an internal tracking system with clip-on gliders to attach the curtain and feed it through when opening and closing. This tracking system is completely hidden from view and can operate cordless, corded, or motorised curtains.

Tracks can be mounted to walls and ceilings as well as behind decorative fixtures such as a valance or pelmet. This allows for greater flexibility in achieving different design goals or accommodating different window sizes.

Available in plastic or metal finishes, curtain tracks are adaptable to any type of room or interior design and give a more modern-looking aesthetic

Why use curtain tracks?

Tracks are primarily used to hang and draw curtains that have heading tape. For this reason, you can’t use tab top or eyelet curtains with a tracking system, as these styles must be hung by a pole or rod.

The type of curtains that do require or benefit from curtain tracks include:

  • S-fold curtains
  • Pinch and goblet pleat curtains
  • Pencil pleat curtains

Types of curtain tracks

When choosing your curtain style, you need to be mindful of the type of tracking you need. There are different types available depending on the size of your window, the weight and style of your curtain, and whether you want to layer sheers behind your curtains.

  • Single track: A single-track rail is used to hang a single set of curtains or sheers.
  • Double track: With a double-track rail, curtains can be layered over sheers for added privacy and light reduction.
  • Motorised track: Using a motorised track, you can automate the operation of your curtains for maximum aesthetic, luxury, and convenience.
  • Long-length curtain track: For larger or longer than normal windows, an extendable tracking system is available. Our hand-drawn tracks can extend up to 20 metres, and up to 7.5 metres for motorised tracks.
  • S-fold curtain tracks: S-fold curtains such as wave fold or ripple fold curtains require S-fold tracks to give them that soft flowing, sculptural style. This is what we sell and iSeekBlinds.
  • Bent curtain tracks: Curved, flexible curtain tracks can be made to use around curved or corner windows, including bay windows.

Benefits of curtain tracks

If you want your curtains to make a statement – and not your curtain hardware – then curtain tracks are a perfect choice. Curtain tracks keep your window hardware invisible, putting the attention on the curtains themselves.

The main benefits of using curtain tracks, aside from its minimalist profile, include:

Seamless operation

Since most curtain rods are made of two pieces to facilitate a longer window, they often leave a bump or a seam where curtains can get stuck. With curtain tracks, drawing drapes is smooth and seamless and can be easily opened or closed along the entire length of the window without getting caught.

Sturdiness

Curtain tracks are supported with brackets and other hardware mounted to a wall or ceiling, allowing for greater durability. Because of this, long and heavy fabrics or drapery can be supported without the tracks ever bending or collapsing under weight (something you might get with curtain rods).

Versatility

Curtain tracks provide much-needed versatility and flexibility, especially when dealing with windows of irregular shapes such as bay or corner windows. They can also be used for other drapery purposes, such as for use as a room divider or as a door.

Curtain tracks can be easily bent to shape and are a great choice for DIY decorators as they allow curtains to be hung and configured any way desired.

Here’s how to update your curtains and rejuvenate your home.

If you’ve recently redecorated or you’re just craving a refresh, installing new curtains is one of the best ways to bring life and light into a room.

Whether you want to refresh a bedroom or living space, updating your curtains is a task you can do all by yourself. To get you started with planning, here are some top ideas on how to update curtains. These seven thought-starters can inspire you to create the window treatment that best suits your home and lifestyle.

Ready to update your curtains? iSeekBlinds make it easy with custom-made Australian curtains that are simple to installMeasure your windows and place an order to receive curtains that are ready to install.

Enhance privacy with sheer curtains

In the cooler months, you’ll likely want to enjoy the natural light that comes through your windows. Sheer curtains can add a touch of elegance and privacy whilst allowing natural light to fill each room.

Sheer curtains come in a range of fabrics and styles. Layering sheers with your blinds or thicker curtains helps to enhance the energy efficiency of a room. Sheer curtains will add softness by diffusing natural light.

Sheer curtains can be paired with your existing roller blinds or blockout curtains. You can measure your windows and order custom-manufactured sheer curtains from iSeekBlinds that are ready for DIY installation. Check out our handy DIY guides here

Swap drapes for roller blinds

Roller blinds are a space-saving alternative to heavy block-out curtains. If you’ve got old, heavy curtains that intrude into the room and collect dust, replacing these with roller blinds can create a modern, allergy-free window treatment.

Installing roller blinds in newly built or established homes has many benefits. The blinds are easy to maintain and will sit flush against the window. In Australia, roller blinds are also an effective way to keep out the heat on a scorching summer day.

Roller blinds can block the light or act as a filter for harmful UV rays, reducing the intensity of the mid-summer sun while allowing natural light to enter your home.

You can install roller blinds yourself using our DIY guides. There are roller blinds made for inside or outside of the window, so you can choose the option that best suits you.

When choosing fabric for your roller blinds, your health is important, too. All of our fabrics provide sun protection without releasing harmful chemicals when the sun hits the roller blinds each day.

Bring luxury with blockout curtains

Blockout curtains are perfect for bedrooms or formal living areas, where you want to keep warmth in and provide a comforting aura.

One key advantage of using blockout curtains is that they improve the energy efficiency of your home. Thick, lined curtains also absorb sound, so your environment is more peaceful.

Choose a fabric to match your decor and mount blockout curtains from the ceiling or wall, according to what best suits the room.

Motorise your curtains and blinds

What is more luxurious than waking up and saying ‘Hey Alexa, open the blinds’? Curtains and blinds alike can be motorised so that you can enjoy the morning sun without even getting up.

To automate your curtains, they must have motorised tracks. You can upgrade your existing roller blinds to motorised blinds with our easy retrofit process, or you can order motorised blinds when ordering new curtains or blinds.

Make sheers dark or light

When you think of sheer curtains, you may think of your Grandma’s white lace curtains. But sheer curtains come in contemporary styles, too. Playing with colour is one way to bring a modern look to any room.

Light-coloured sheers are perfect for small rooms. When mounted from the ceiling, sheer curtains will add a sense of expansiveness to any space. For larger rooms like an open plan living space, dark sheers can make a striking statement.

Dark sheers hung with an S-fold style are elegant and contemporary. You can browse our gallery for inspiration on how to bring this modern look into your home.

Curtain fabric and length matters

As your lifestyle changes, the style of curtains that best suits your home may evolve. If you have pets or young children, curtains or blinds made from durable fabrics that extend to the window ledge are more suitable. At this stage of your life, it makes sense to take a practical approach to window treatment with styles that serve their purpose and don’t intrude.

In a room designed just for adults, exploring delicate fabrics and floor-length curtains can bring elegance. Updating curtains as your life changes is one way to celebrate the evolution of your life over time. It’s all about making a space that’s perfectly suited for you and your family to enjoy.

Before committing to a change, you can start the planning process by ordering free fabric samples so you can see and feel the different available fabric options

Consider ceiling mounted curtains

Ceiling mounted curtains are a modern window treatment that increases the visual perspective of any room. Sheer curtains or block out curtains can be ceiling mounted to enhance the sense of space within a room. This modern look is achievable for anyone.

Updating your curtains may seem like a daunting task, but the results will be worth it. And just because you’re doing it yourself doesn’t mean you have to go it alone.

Discover the benefits of insulation with curtains in your home.

If you are looking for an easy and cost-effective way to keep your home warm in the colder months, you might want to consider curtains. While there is a slew of home improvements you can make to enhance the warmth of your home, such as double-glazed windows and insulation, the perfect solution can be as simple as investing in some quality curtains. Plus, curtains have the added benefit of being an attractive addition to your home, as well as adding value.

Do curtains keep you warm in your home? Read on to find out — and then explore our range of high-quality, Australian-made curtains to choose your perfect fit.

Do curtains keep you warm in the home?

Unless you already have double glazing or some kind of insulating film on your windows, there will likely be a fair bit of heat transfer taking place through the glass. What this means is that plenty of the warmth within your home will be lost as it comes into contact with the chill of the outside via your windows. You can protect against this happening with a very simple solution: curtains!

  • At iSeekBlinds we offer a range of high-quality curtain fabrics, many of which offer insulation properties so that you can retain the warmth of your home with ease.
  • We offer free fabric samples to every customer, and we recommend that you get some free samples of our fabric just to feel the thickness and softness of our curtain options.
  • Plus, you can choose from our range of colours and ensure that the curtains you choose perfectly match your home.

What kind of curtains do I need to choose for the best warmth?

At iSeekBlinds we offer a range of curtains and blinds, with a range of fabric options available.

  • We recommend that if you are seeking insulation properties and looking for the greatest heat retention you opt for the thickest possible fabrics.
  • Many of our blackout curtains and room darkening curtains offer the added benefit of enhanced insulation, along with the benefit of a darkened room for better quality sleep.

Should I layer curtains for the best warmth retention?

An option for customers who are looking for added insulation is to double up on the curtains in their home. For example, you may already have sheer curtains in part of your home.

  • Doubling up on curtains is great for insulation, as even a thin layer of fabric can enhance the insulating capacity within your home.
  • With another layer of curtains on a separate set of curtain tracks, you can enjoy the best of both worlds – sheer and blockout.
  • You can also layer curtains with roller blinds, to give you the ultimate in practicality, flexibility and insulation benefits.
  • Double curtains allow you to enjoy the daytime sunshine with your sheer curtains and then trap in the heat of the day with blackout curtains which can be pulled shut at night

Tips for the best fitting curtains

When you are looking to enhance the insulating properties of your home, it helps to ensure that your curtains fit your windows well. Take measurements of your windows and ensure that you have got the size of your windows just right.

When you choose iSeekBlinds you are choosing high-quality and affordable curtain options which make getting the perfect curtains for your home, easy. We have a range of instructional material on how to install your curtains including these guides:

How to choose between living room blinds, curtains and shutters.

A living room is a place we go to connect, relax, and unwind. It’s often the first room we consider when redecorating!  If you’ve just moved into a new place or you’re ready to update your living room, selecting the right window treatment will set the room’s tone.

You might choose to allow plenty of natural light to enter during the day, filtered by elegant sheer curtains or light-filtering blinds. In the evening, privacy is paramount. Stay cosy inside by closing heavier curtains or blinds.

Stylish living room blinds.

Blinds are a practical and modern choice for busy living spaces. Easy to maintain and clean, blinds tend to blend in and complement other living room decor.

Double roller blinds allow you to let in just the right amount of light at any time of day, as you can choose between blockout and sunscreen or light-filtering blinds, depending on your needs. With this flexibility, you can’t go wrong.

If you’re looking to add modern luxury to your living room, there’s also the option to upgrade to motorised blinds.

Our custom-made, linked roller blinds allow the flexibility to use your windows and sliding doors easily while still maintaining maximum privacy and comfort inside.

Cosy curtains for all-day comfort.

Transform your living room with our custom-made blockout and sheer curtains. With no compromise on quality, our living room curtains are made with only the highest quality fabrics.

The best place to start when selecting curtains is to decide what you need them to achieve. While curtains serve to add texture and style to any room, they also need to be practical! For example, in living areas, you may want to achieve privacy during the days and evenings. Lighter fabrics and sheer curtains are practical, giving you the flexibility to design the room in your style. Install roller blinds behind them to give you nighttime privacy and insulation during summer and winter.

Blockout curtains will provide excellent protection against the winter cold and harsh summer sun and have always been a popular option for living room windows.

To help with the DIY process, I have prepared an extensive how-to video library. You’ll find information on different fabrics, and videos on how to measure your windows as well as how to install your new living room curtains. Find them on our website here.

Tip: We highly recommend ordering free fabric samples to see the fabric before placing your order online. This will give you confidence in your colour and texture selection.

Statement living room plantation shutters.

A fantastic option for any home, plantation shutters are a classic window treatment that’s super-easy to maintain. Shutters bring architectural structure and stunning style to your space. Our shutters are designed in clear-view style, so you have the best possible view from your window when the blades are open.

Our website has plenty of handy videos and instructions to help you DIY assemble and install your shutters, allowing you to enjoy these premium products at an affordable price.

Choose the panel layout that will complement your window and place your order online. Your living room shutters are custom made to your exact specifications in just a few weeks.

Get your best night’s rest with blackout curtains for your bedroom.

If you are someone who struggles with getting enough shuteye of an evening you might need to consider if there is something in your bedroom preventing you from having a restful night.

So much of our sleep is determined by the conditions we create within our bedrooms, and the routine we engage in before we go to sleep. In this short article we are going to go through some of the environmental factors that can give you a better night’s sleep. We are also going to explore some actions you can build into your evening routine to ensure that by the time your head hits the pillow you are primed and ready for a full eight hours of rest!

Looking for a high-quality set of blackout curtains to block the sun of a morning? iSeekBlinds have a great range of blackout curtains in various colours and fabrics to ensure that your bedroom is a plush and comfortable retreat.

Make your bedroom a haven

The first thing you want to do in ensuring that your bedroom is set for the evening is to make sure that you are blocking out the light. You want to keep your bedroom as dark as possible so that you can rest and relax. If you have a streetlight that shines into your room, invest in some blackout blinds or curtains to keep the light out. Or, if you have a bedroom that cops the full heat of the sunlight in the morning, use blackout blinds to keep the sun away.

Why not also consider investing in some essential oils and a diffuser, and load it up with your favourite nighttime blend? A soothing mix of lavender and some natural Australian scents is always a winner for nighttime.

Consider investing in motorised blinds or curtains to make waking up in the morning a lot easier. If you have a habit of snoozing in the morning you will find it a whole lot harder to stay sleeping if the sunlight is pouring into your room. You can even set your motorised blinds to open at a set time with home automation â€“ and that is one way to wake up on time!

Full disclosure – if the reason you are not getting enough sleep is that your significant other snores loud enough to wake the neighbours, then there is not a lot a set of blackout curtains will do to silence them. However, it can’t hurt!

Do blackout curtains help sleep?

Ultimately, anything to keep the light out of your bedroom is going to help you sleep better. Studies have shown that we operate with a circadian rhythm, that is, we rest with the sunset and wake with the sunrise. Only in today’s world, we are going to bed long after sunset and waking up generally after sunrise. So if you can keep the light out of your bedroom, you are effectively tricking your brain into thinking it’s still dark, and thus enjoying better sleep!

Here are some tips to maximise the light blockage in your bedroom:
  • Run your curtains as far past the edge of the window/architraves as your space allows.
  • Opt for a wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling curtain installation.
  • For roller blinds, opt for an outside-mount installation to avoid light gaps at the edge of your blinds.

For more tips and tricks on getting the most out of your blackout curtains, get in touch with us. Our friendly customer service team are happy to help.

Bedtime routine tips.

A key part of getting enough sleep is your routine prior to bedtime. So in addition to ensuring that your room is dark enough thanks to your blackout curtains or blinds, we recommend following a few key tips:

  • Wind down – an hour before your intended bedtime, start to wind down and get into a relaxed frame of mind. You might like to try meditating, or simply pop on some comfortable clothes and read for a while.
  • Remove blue light – this means get rid of the device at least twenty minutes before bed, or if you can’t do that invest in some blue light blocking glasses.
  • Listen to relaxing music – pop on your favourite chilled out Spotify playlist while you’re winding down for the evening and enjoy some mellow relaxation.
  • Warm bath/shower – finding it hard to wind down? If you have time in the evenings you might like to have a warm bath or shower with your favourite bath or shower gel. There are plenty of sleepy-time products out there which are infused with lavender and other gentle fragrances, so give one a go.
  • Get ready for bed – Once you have had your shower, put on your comfiest bedclothes and, if you feel like something sweet before bed why not make a mug of soothing nighttime tea with a small spoon of honey or maple syrup? This concoction can help you drift into a relaxing frame of mind and get you ready for sleep.

A how-to guide for cleaning common curtain types.

Taken the plunge and invested in some new curtains? Considering buying some new curtains and wondering what kind of curtains are the easiest to keep clean? Curtains are a huge part of the look and feel of your home, and even though they are not an item you might think requires regular cleaning, treating them well and giving them some TLC, will keep them looking fresh and beautiful for many years to come.

In this handy guide, we are going to go into the finer points of how to clean your curtains, and then provide you with some advice on what styles of curtains will work best for your home.

Looking for high-quality curtains? Curtains from iSeekBlinds are your first choice for premium Australian-made curtains. Contact our friendly team today to discuss your options or to ask questions.

Cleaning your blackout curtains.

Blackout curtains are an obvious choice for many homeowners who want to enjoy privacy and a reduction in sunlight, without compromising on the style and aesthetic appeal of a high-quality curtain. Blackout, or blockout, curtains are named because they eliminate sunlight from a room by the nature of their construction.

Many blackout curtains are made from thick fabric and have a durable acrylic coating on the back to achieve maximum insulation. Some blackout curtains are not able to be machine washed, and so require hand washing instead.

Cleaning blackout curtains requires a gentle approach:
  • Get a gentle fabric cleaning solution or some diluted sugar soap. Soak a foam sponge in the mixture and then wring it out well.
  • You can either spot clean or give your curtains a full going-over if you prefer.
  • For a full clean, start from the top of each curtain, wiping the front and back of the curtains, ensuring you focus on any areas where the curtains touch the floor as these spots will be particularly dirty.
  • Keep the bucket of cleaning solution fresh by changing it whenever it looks dirty. You don’t want to undo all of your hard work by smearing dirt onto your clean curtains!
  • Depending on what type of curtain fabric you have, you may be able to pop your curtains in the wash — ensuring they are on a very gentle setting and low temperature.
  • Speak to one of our friendly team about washing your blackout curtains to find out what will work best for you.

Cleaning your sheer curtains.

Sheer curtains add style, elegance, and aesthetic appeal to any living space or formal area. A sheer curtain is not going to add a whole lot of privacy, but what it lacks in privacy it makes up for in appeal. Sheers are a great addition to an existing blockout curtain where you want to provide daytime privacy without blocking out a view or sunlight. Many people choose to put sheer curtains on the second level of their home facing out to a view, or to their backyard. You may also want to combine a sheer curtain with a blind or other more private option. That way, you can enjoy a sheer curtain when you want one but also benefit from more seclusion when you need it.

Cleaning your sheer curtains is a fairly straightforward task, provided you are able to machine wash them on a delicate setting. Otherwise, a spot clean or hand wash is a safer, more gentle option.

Here are our top tips:
  • Hand washing is the safest option for sheers, as the fabrics are often quite delicate.
  • If machine washing your sheer curtains, opt for a cool or cold wash and use the most gentle setting possible.
  • Do not leave your curtains too long between washes. Dirt and dust will build up on the fabric and the natural oils present in the dirt will begin to break down the delicate fabric.
  • Set yourself a reminder on a calendar or make a note to wash curtains once every four-to-six months. That way your sheer curtains always look their best.
  • Do not tumble dry your sheer curtains — use a flat or line drying method and ensure you take your curtains out of the machine as soon as they are done.

Cleaning your curtain tracks.

Cleaning curtain tracks is commonly known as the bane of any cleaner’s existence. These pesky grooves often accumulate a range of dust and debris and it is difficult to get the right tool to clean your curtain tracks. We have a range of suggestions:

  • Buy some large pipe cleaners from your local fabric store and bend these into the shape of your curtain tracks to really get a good clean.
  • Make up a mixture of diluted gentle detergent and dip the pipe cleaner into the solution to dislodge any stubborn dirt.
  • Use a dry pipe cleaner to go over the curtain tracks again to ensure you haven’t missed any areas.
  • Again, as with any other cleaning job, it is important to stay on top of cleaning your curtain tracks. That way you won’t find yourself with a far bigger job than you can tackle

How to clean different curtain fabrics

Curtains made from a durable fabric are going to prove easiest to clean and will last the longest – but provided that you take care of sheer curtains well, they are going to provide you with years of enjoyment.

There are so many different curtain fabrics out there; the best way to know what works for you is to speak to someone in our team today about what kind of curtains you need and then go from there.

If you’re in need of some inspiration, visit our gallery or Instagram page for ideas and real-life photos from our customers.  Once you’ve decided which product you prefer, make use of our free fabric samples. They will allow you to see and feel the fabrics before selecting the one you like best.
