When winter hits, staying warm and heating our homes is something we all like to do. Whether we have ducted heating, split systems or wood fires—keeping our homes and our families warm is of utmost importance during these chilly months. But heating our homes can be an expensive exercise, especially if we don’t have good insulation or the resources to ensure we are being as energy efficient as possible. So how do we keep your home energy costs down?
While there are many options for enhancing the warmth of your home, such as double-glazed windows and insulation, the perfect solution can be as simple as investing in some quality window furnishings. Plus, they are an attractive addition and add also value to your home. But how do these additions help to keep your energy costs down?
One of the primary benefits of window coverings is their ability to improve energy efficiency. In Australia, it is widely reported that up to 40% of a home’s heating energy can be lost, and up to 87% of its heat gained, through windows. It’s a scary thought, isn’t it? So unless you already have double glazing or some kind of insulating film on your windows, there will likely be a fair bit of heat transfer taking place through the glass. What this means is that plenty of the warmth within your home will be lost as it comes into contact with the chill of the outside via your windows.
Well-insulated window coverings, such as thermal or blockout curtains, double curtains, thermal blinds, blockout blinds or double roller blinds, can help prevent heat loss during winter, and heat gain during summer. By effectively controlling the transfer of heat through your windows, these coverings can reduce the load on your heating and cooling systems. Consequently, you can save on your energy bills by relying less on artificial heating or cooling. But remember, the efficacy of your window coverings will be gauged by how well they fit your windows. Custom-made window coverings will give you the best results, and we can help you with that. See our online how-to-measure guides and tips below for more information.
Window coverings also allow you to control the amount of sunlight entering your home. Direct sunlight can increase the temperature inside, which is ideal in the winter months as your heaters won’t have to work as hard to heat your home. By using coverings like blinds, shades, or curtains, you can adjust the amount of sunlight entering your rooms. This can prevent overheating in summer, and reduce the need for excessive heating in winter, ultimately saving on your energy costs.
Window coverings offer privacy by reducing the view from the outside in. This can eliminate the need for exterior window treatments or privacy films, saving you money. Additionally, coverings such as roller blinds or plantation shutters can act as an additional layer of security by preventing potential intruders from peering into your home and deterring them from attempting a break-in.
During the warmer months, UV rays from sunlight can cause fading and damage to your furniture, carpets, and other interior decor. Window coverings like roller blinds, plantation shutters or curtains with UV-blocking capabilities can help protect your furnishings from harmful rays, thereby extending their lifespan. By reducing the need for premature replacements or repairs, you can save money in the long run.
Some window coverings, such as heavy drapes or layered curtains, can provide additional insulation from the cold and help dampen external noises. Improved insulation helps maintain a consistent indoor temperature, reducing the workload on your heating systems and lowering energy expenses. Moreover, reducing noise infiltration can enhance your comfort, making it unnecessary to invest in soundproofing solutions.
Remember, choosing the right window coverings and utilising them effectively based on your climate and preferences can maximise their cost-saving benefits. So what options can iSeekBlinds offer you?
An option for customers who are looking for added insulation is to layer their window furnishings in their homes. For example, you may already have sheer curtains, but you might consider adding a blockout curtain or blockout roller blind for extra insulation. Doubling up on your window furnishings is great for insulation, as even a thin layer of fabric can enhance the insulating capacity within your home.
Sometimes trying to match the perfect blind and curtain fabric can be tricky. So, to make things easier, we have developed fabric combinations that complement each other. Not only do they provide you with a beautiful layered window covering solution, but one that is functional and affordable too.
When you are looking to enhance the insulating properties of your home, it helps to ensure that your curtains and blinds fit your windows well. Take measurements of your windows and ensure that you have got the size of your windows just right.

Feeling like your home needs a refresh? At this time of year, many of us start thinking about how we can make our spaces that little bit nicer (gosh, we are constantly thinking about that!) but we often overlook the effect that our window coverings have on the look and feel of a room.
Choosing the right treatment for your windows can make a world of difference. Not only do they change the visual appearance, but they can affect the way you live in the space as well.
Curtains and blinds are super popular right now, and the good news is that done right – they are a match made in heaven! Combining curtains and roller blinds offers you the ultimate in flexibility. Not only does it allow you to control light levels with ease, but they will also provide you the privacy and insulation benefits you require during the day and night.
So, think this is something you’d like for your home? Read on for our tips and tricks, and you too can master this perfect combination like a boss!
This is the common sense first-step as it will guide you in your decorating choices. For example – bedrooms need full blockout for a great sleep, especially important if you have a shift-worker in the house. Outside mounting your blockout roller blind and back rolling the fabric will enable the blind to sit nice and close to the architrave, eliminating any light gaps and offering the best blockout and room darkening result. Living rooms can be a little more flexible with light levels, so roller blinds can be inside mounted if you have the depth in your window reveals, giving you a more streamlined and subtle finish.
Will a blockout curtain and sunscreen roller blind be best? Or a blockout roller blind behind a sheer curtain? This can be a hard choice as both have practical and aesthetic benefits. Blockout curtains give you excellent light block – which is super handy if you have a shift-worker in the house who needs to sleep during the day – and installing a sunscreen blind behind the curtain will offer daytime privacy when the curtains are open. Conversely, if you can’t go past the beauty of sheer curtains, installing a blockout roller blind behind them will give you the privacy you need at night time.
Where and how you mount your curtains and blinds can really change the perception of the scale of your windows. If you have standard or low ceilings, you can elongate the height of the space by opting for a ceiling mount on your curtains and running the track past the edge of your architraves too. This will make your windows look much larger than they actually are. Going high and wide really will make a huge difference, we promise!
There are a few things to consider here in addition to the basic “Which colour?” question. Start with the roller blind and the room it’s going in.
Phew – confused yet?! Once you’ve covered these queries and have formed some idea of what you need from a fabric, then consider the look you want to achieve and the colours that will work with your interior.
We suggest choosing a roller blind fabric that is a tonal-match or neutral colour when placing them behind a sheer curtain. Considering the sheer is at the front and is the star in the “good-looks department”, you don’t want to detract from that by installing a roller behind it that is in total contrast or distracts you from its beauty. Choosing a neutral blind fabric that blends with your walls or with the curtain itself will give you a stunning result. When it comes to the sheer curtain fabric – our Bali range has some gorgeous colours to choose from and their linen appearance works with many different decorative styles looks amazing in any interior.
To make it really easy for you – we have some coordinated ranges of sheer curtain and blockout roller blind fabrics that will make your choices much easier! Take a look at the Bali and Linesque ranges on our website now.
Blockout and light-filter roller blinds are normally open during the day and closed at night. Blockout curtains are the same, whereas a sheer curtain is normally closed all the time. So the ability to easily open the rollers is of vital importance. Will you be happy reaching behind the curtain to operate your chain-drive blind? Or do you want to upgrade to luxury by opting for our motorised roller blinds? Imagine laying in bed or on the couch, and with a simple “Hey Siri, open the blinds”, up go the your rollers! Hmmm, very enticing isn’t it?
If you’re going for scale and size – ceiling-mount options are the way to go. Choose the profile that suits your needs best and consider the colour as well – our tracks are available in white, black and anodised silver. White will blend in with most ceilings, providing a super subtle look. Black will provide a great contrast, and is the perfect choice for those with black framed windows or other black accents in the room. The simple tip here is to decide whether you want the track to blend in or stand-out. You can also choose our motorised curtains for the ultimate in luxury.
So all in all – there a few things to keep in mind when selecting the right combination for your windows. The choices you make can make or break a room, so making sure you consider all aspects carefully is essential to achieving a great result, and one you’ll be super proud of for years to come.
If you’re in need of some inspiration, visit our gallery or Instagram page for ideas and real-life photos from our customers. Once you’ve decided which product you prefer, make use of our free fabric samples. They will allow you to see and feel the fabrics before selecting the one you like best.

No matter whether you are a sheer curtain lover or are just getting into the world of these beautiful and refined window dressing options, this short guide on making sheer curtains look good is for you.
Sheer curtains sit well with refined and classic styles just as easily as they can be used to great effect in modern and contemporary design for your home. The key things to consider when choosing sheer curtains for your home are the fabric and the finishing style. At iSeekBlinds we have a huge range of fabric options, colours, and options available to suit every style of home and style. Read on to find out how to complete the look of your home with sheer curtains for every room.
Not sure where to start? Take a look at our stunning collection of sheer curtains in this video. Order now for fast delivery around Australia, ready for immediate installation.
Sheer curtains may have had a reputation in the past as being dated – but this could not be further from the truth. Gone are the days of sheer curtains hanging limply over the kitchen sink, today’s sheers are elegant and flowing – gently draping the floor, or adding a stylish frame to an outdoor area.
You have so many options with sheer curtains, and it is their adaptability that makes them such a popular choice with today’s homeowners. You can purchase different options in terms of transparency, colour, and fabric; and the difference in each means that you can design your sheer curtains to suit how much light you want in each room.
After all, a sheer curtain’s purpose is mainly two-fold: privacy, and light. Beyond those key benefits, you also enjoy the additional benefit of sheer curtains providing an attractive feature in your home.
The first thing you need to think about when planning your sheer curtains is how you want them to sit in your home. Do you want them to be voluminous and flowing, billowing with the slightest gust?
To achieve a truly elegant style, ensure your sheer curtains look generous. We make our s-fold sheer curtains in a continuous fashion and at a minimum 200% fullness (meaning that the fabric width is twice the length of the track) which gives volume and depth to the curtain when hung.
Do you want your curtains to drape the floor or sit flush? A sheer curtain can look incredibly refined when there is a small amount of gathering at the base.
Choosing the right style of tracks for your sheer curtains is equally important, and whether you opt for a ceiling or wall mount, or a curved track, we have the options to suit your home.
A great option for more privacy with great control is to invest in sheer curtains with a blind behind them. That way you can raise your blinds during the day for sunlight, but lower them at night for privacy.
The choice of sheer colour style is something that will depend on the style of your home, the decor in your room, and what type of look you are trying to achieve. We love seeing customers using our free fabric samples to ensure that their curtains perfectly suit their home, and provide this option to all customers to ensure you are satisfied with the end result. Not sure what colours to choose? We have a couple of top tips:

In this post, I’m going to show you how you can use layers of curtains, to add softness and luxury to any home. Whether you love the vintage style of lace curtains and heavy drapes or prefer a striking modern look, there many curtain layering combinations to consider.
Dark sheers over blackout curtains are one modern style that you may have seen trending on Instagram. Another popular style is layering neutral fabrics for a bohemian vibe. To inspire you, here are some of the creative ways you can combine sheer and blackout curtains.
Whatever your style, you can find the fabrics and advice to achieve the look you want with iSeekBlinds custom made curtains.
Placing sheer curtains close to the window glass and blackout curtains towards the inside of the room allows for privacy during daylight and darker hours.
During the daytime, opening blackout curtains will allow natural light to flow into the room. Sheer curtains can remain closed as these transparent fabrics allow light to enter, softening the harsh sunlight in the summer months. In the cooler months, you may open sheer curtains to allow maximum light to fill the room.
In the evening, you can maintain privacy and warmth by closing the blackout curtains.
Sheer curtains and blockout curtains can be hung as single or multiple panels. Two panels create traditional centre-opening curtains, multiple panels can be free-floating and move along the track to where you want them to sit, whereas one single curtain will gather on one side when open.
Blockout curtains can help improve sleep, but you may prefer the visual softness of sheer curtains facing the inside of a room. This modern curtain layering style is perfect when you want a contemporary twist on a traditional window treatment. This is also the favoured option of the iSeekBlinds team as it allows our beautiful sheer curtain fabrics to really shine!
Bringing sheer curtains to the inside is an elegant way to soften any room’s decor. S-fold sheer curtains can be allowed to hang to the floor, or you may drape curtains back with ties for a more theatrical and romantic effect.
Mounting curtains from the ceiling adds a sense of height to the room while enhancing elegance with smooth visual lines. Ceiling-mounted curtains can open on the left, right, and centre, or be free-floating, to suit your room and style.
If you want both curtain layers to move freely and independently, mounting S-fold curtains on separate tracks is most effective. Our curtain tracks have a small profile that blends seamlessly with the ceiling, hiding the brackets for an elegant finish.
Wall-mounted curtains are attached to the wall directly above the window. Different bracket lengths ensure that sheer curtains and blackout curtains can both move freely.
Wall-mounted curtains often have a centre opening, but you could also use a left-hand or right-hand stack, or free-floating curtains, to suit the layout of the room you are decorating.
For added modernisation, you can choose motorised curtain tracks. Motorised curtain tracks allow the curtains to be opened at a distance, even when you are still in bed.
This style of curtain track is ideal for blackout curtains. Imagine being able to set a timer so that the curtains open automatically, allowing light into the room for a natural awakening — no alarm necessary!
You may choose to mount both curtain layers on motorised tracks or mount sheer curtains on hand-operated tracks and blackout curtains on motorised rails
Before ordering sheer and blackout curtains for layering, you will need to plan the curtain length. The total length of the curtain is known as the ‘drop’. The drop is the length of the curtain from the curtain tracks at the top to the floor.
When layering sheer curtains with heavier drapes, the lighter fabric can fall slightly shorter than the heavier fabric to maintain movement. For example, if your sheer curtains are measured to hover just above the floor, your blackout curtains might lightly touch the flooring.
Sheer curtains mounted over blackout curtains will look elegant with a longer length. While blackout curtains might hover or barely touch the floor, sheers facing into the room may break gently to provide a sense of luxury.
Ultimately the choice is yours – you can make them the same drop, or one longer, it’s totally up to you — with custom-made curtains, you can achieve the exact look you are after.
You can find instructions on exactly how to measure for sheer and blackout curtains, and our founder Mike has prepared video demonstrations for each step to guide you on your DIY journey!

Sheer curtains, also known simply as sheers, are still one of the most popular window treatments around. These lightweight beauties could be considered the perfect window covering for many reasons. Not only do they offer daytime privacy, diffuse bright light and offer a degree of insulation against heat and cold, but they do it all at the same time as softening rooms with their floaty, textural appearance. They’re also ideal for layering, partnering perfectly with blockout roller blinds and plantation shutters.
So, what do you need to know about sheer curtains before you jump head-on into installing them? We cover the most common questions below, plus give you the heads up on how we can help you achieve a beautiful result.
The majority of sheer curtain fabrics will allow you to see through them to the outside, enabling you to retain your view. At the same time, they offer a level of daytime privacy, shielding you and your space from the outside world.
However, at night, these benefits are reduced so we suggest adding another layer of window covering to provide you with additional privacy options, such as blockout roller blinds or plantation shutters.
Sheer curtains act like a diffuser, softening natural light and reducing the glare associated with direct sunlight. They will help protect your interior from UV rays, reducing the risk of fading and sun damage to furniture, flooring and soft furnishings.
They also provide some insulation benefits – assisting in reducing the amount of heat entering your room – a definite plus during the hot Australian summer. During winter they will help keep the cold at bay as well, though we suggest adding another layer of protection to really protect you from the cooler temperatures outside.
Measuring for sheer curtains is a simple process once you know exactly what you want to achieve with your sheers. At iSeekBlinds, we are all about educating our customers on how to measure and install their own window coverings, so our website is full of valuable resources that are easy to follow and understand. Our owner and resident DIY expert Mike has created a series of videos taking you step-by-step through the process – so grab your measuring tape, head to our video gallery and away you go!
The average cost for sheer curtains can vary based on the provider you choose, the fabric you select and of course, whether you opt for a custom-made or an off-the-shelf product. For the best results, we recommend opting for custom-made sheers in quality fabric from a reputable supplier.
If you’re on a budget but still want a beautiful quality finish, then consider going down the DIY track with us. If you have chosen the sleek, clean lines of roller blinds for your home — you’ve made a great choice! Roller blinds look great in every room, adding a minimalist and modern feel to your space.
But how do you keep your roller blinds looking clean? While these durable blinds are suited to high-traffic areas and are extremely low-maintenance, over time some stains or dirt patches may start to appear.
Depending on the type of stain and the material of your blinds, there are different methods of cleaning them. Here are a few of our tried and tested ways for maintaining and restoring the cleanliness of roller blinds. That way, you can continue to enjoy their blind-ing beauty.
Roller blinds are a highly appealing and functional form of window covering. As they are often used in high-traffic areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, they can become dirty after a while. Keeping them clean will maintain their lustre and have them working as they should. Thankfully, roller blinds are extremely easy to care for, and only require a spot clean for most marks and stains.
When it comes to cleaning roller blinds, you have to be mindful of the type of fabric you’re working with, along with the severity of the stain. Most roller blinds can be cleaned easily with a duster or vacuum. Sometimes, however, hard-to-remove stains such as dirt, makeup, bugs, and mould can leave a lasting mark that requires further attention.
Most manufacturers warn against using strong detergents and solvents, or scrubbing your blinds because it can damage the coating of the fabric, crease it or disfigure it altogether. Generally, a hand clean with a warm, damp cloth, is all that’s needed to keep roller blinds blemish-free.
Whether you just want to do a quick touch-up or a deeper clean of your blinds, the following methods should prove effective in keeping them looking brand new.
For most light stains, dust, or hand marks, using a duster or soft lint-free cloth, or the dusting brush nozzle of your vacuum cleaner will do the trick. A white eraser can often be effective for removing hand marks too! Just remember to do it gently.
Roller blinds that are coated or have a glossy surface, may also tolerate a damp cloth or sponge without any risk of discolouration. Using warm water with mild laundry detergent, spot-test an inconspicuous part first – and if it’s safe, simply dip your cloth or sponge and ring it out, before gently buffing away at the stain. Wait to let the blind dry completely before rolling it back up, as you may run the risk of mould developing if it remains damp. You can always use a hairdryer on the lowest heat setting to speed up the drying process.
For dust build-up, simply use a vacuum with the upholstery attachment. With blinds fully extended, hold the end taught toward you as you work the vacuum nozzle from bottom to top.
It’s recommended to vacuum your roller blinds at least once a month to keep them free of dust and dirt build-up.
To remove tough stains from your roller blinds, a more invasive method of cleaning may be required—however, we do recommend the use of warm-soapy water rather than any commercial chemicals.
Depending on the stain and the fabric of your blinds, you may attempt spot-treating using a stain remover. Following the directions as outlined on the stain removal product, spot test first – then apply to the blemish and gently scrub using an old toothbrush.
You can then follow with a cloth soaked in warm soapy water and apply as needed.
If you are unsure what material your blinds are made of, or what type of stain remover can be used, contact your blind’s manufacturer and follow their instructions for safe stain removal.
Mould on blinds is common, particularly if they are suspended over a drafty window susceptible to condensation or within a damp or humid environment. Sometimes mould can appear if a window was accidentally left open during a rainstorm and didn’t have the chance to completely dry.
If you have noticed mould on your blinds, the best course of action is to dismantle them from your window and take them to a dry cleaner for professional removal.
If the mould growth is minor, you can try spot cleaning where necessary by gently scrubbing with a toothbrush. Once cleaned, hang on a drying rack to fully air dry before re-assembling.
There are also commercial mould removers available that you can use to treat mould and mildew on your blinds. Always read the label to ensure it’s safe to use on roller blinds or fabrics before using.
If you’re in need of some inspiration, visit our gallery or Instagram page for ideas and real-life photos from our customers. Once you’ve decided which product you prefer, make use of our free fabric samples. They will allow you to see and feel the fabrics before selecting the one you like best.

If you are someone who struggles with getting enough shuteye of an evening you might need to consider if there is something in your bedroom preventing you from having a restful night.
So much of our sleep is determined by the conditions we create within our bedrooms, and the routine we engage in before we go to sleep. In this short article we are going to go through some of the environmental factors that can give you a better night’s sleep. We are also going to explore some actions you can build into your evening routine to ensure that by the time your head hits the pillow you are primed and ready for a full eight hours of rest!
Looking for a high-quality set of blackout curtains to block the sun of a morning? iSeekBlinds have a great range of blackout curtains in various colours and fabrics to ensure that your bedroom is a plush and comfortable retreat.
The first thing you want to do in ensuring that your bedroom is set for the evening is to make sure that you are blocking out the light. You want to keep your bedroom as dark as possible so that you can rest and relax. If you have a streetlight that shines into your room, invest in some blackout blinds or curtains to keep the light out. Or, if you have a bedroom that cops the full heat of the sunlight in the morning, use blackout blinds to keep the sun away.
Why not also consider investing in some essential oils and a diffuser, and load it up with your favourite nighttime blend? A soothing mix of lavender and some natural Australian scents is always a winner for nighttime.
Consider investing in motorised blinds or curtains to make waking up in the morning a lot easier. If you have a habit of snoozing in the morning you will find it a whole lot harder to stay sleeping if the sunlight is pouring into your room. You can even set your motorised blinds to open at a set time with home automation – and that is one way to wake up on time!
Full disclosure – if the reason you are not getting enough sleep is that your significant other snores loud enough to wake the neighbours, then there is not a lot a set of blackout curtains will do to silence them. However, it can’t hurt!
Ultimately, anything to keep the light out of your bedroom is going to help you sleep better. Studies have shown that we operate with a circadian rhythm, that is, we rest with the sunset and wake with the sunrise. Only in today’s world, we are going to bed long after sunset and waking up generally after sunrise. So if you can keep the light out of your bedroom, you are effectively tricking your brain into thinking it’s still dark, and thus enjoying better sleep!

Installing sheer curtains yourself is easy with iSeekBlinds. We’ll guide you through the process, from fabric selection to final installation.
Sheer curtains create a sense of privacy indoors. Sheer curtains can create privacy in rooms facing the road or where neighbours may have visibility. Blockout roller blinds or curtains prevent neighbours from looking in at night. However, during daylight hours, you may want to benefit from natural light.
Sheer curtains have transparency that allows natural light to fill a room while preventing anyone outside from seeing in. With sheer curtains, you maintain privacy within your home during daylight hours whilst ensuring you benefit fully from natural light. At night, you’ll still need blinds or blockout curtains to create privacy — the sheer privacy effect applies when it’s brighter outdoors than inside.
In Australia, the summer sun can be bright, making it very difficult to view screens or read newspapers, magazines or books. Sheer curtains soften the light as it enters, enabling you to go about your day without the harsh glare of the sun.
If you are working from home, sheer curtains can soften the light in your study or workspace so you can see your screen more easily. The beauty of sheers is that they filter the light, enabling natural light to illuminate your face during those video calls.
Sheer curtains are more dynamic than transparent blinds. S-fold curtains add vibrancy and motion to a room. Sheer curtains with generous fullness will create elegant waves that grace the window space.
A wall of sheer curtains can add elegance while still allowing architectural features to show through. This style is perfect for covering a sliding door entrance or simply creating a striking effect along a stretch of wall space.
When you need your window treatment to perform multiple functions, the best way to achieve this is to layer curtains or combine curtains with blinds.
Sheer curtains can be paired with blockout curtains to achieve a layered, luxurious look. This style is perfect for bedrooms and formal living areas.
For contemporary living spaces, try layering sheer curtains with external or internal roller blinds. Combining block-out blinds with sheers will allow you to darken the room at night and enjoy privacy during the day.
Sheer curtains create a sense of softness and delicacy that a bare window space doesn’t have. Whether you choose a patterned or plain fabric, you can highlight your windows and add texture with sheer curtains.
Dark-coloured sheer curtains can provide contrast in a modern room or office space. Dark-coloured transparent fabric will provide visual contrast while creating an indoor environment that’s suitable for viewing screens. Dark sheer curtains with S-fold tracks are a modern twist on more traditional curtains, bringing softness while creating visual flow.
You can achieve elegance in every room by keeping your sheer curtains simple. Let the curtains fall gracefully to the floor in an even S-fold style, without tiebacks or frills, for a tasteful result.
Hanging sheer curtains in bedrooms and living spaces can help to protect your interior decor from fading in the sunlight. Sheer curtains soften the natural light, so the full force of sunlight doesn’t hit your furniture, flooring, cushions and throws.
Natural-coloured sheer curtains can create a seamless flow from outside to inside, perfect for those summer evenings or warm afternoons. Curtains don’t have to hang at the window height. You can hang sheer curtains above the window or even from the ceiling to add length. Hanging curtains higher adds the illusion of vertical space
Last, sheer curtains provide a touch of whimsy and romance that you can’t achieve with standard blinds. Whether you choose natural coloured fabric or darker colours, the softness of sheer curtains will complement soft nighttime lighting or morning sun.
Choosing high-quality, custom-made sheer curtains can transform the ambience of your home. You can even install S-fold sheer curtains yourself for a DIY transformation of your living spaces.
